About Bunge's Tire & Auto in Elgin, IL

Our History Bunge's Tire & Auto has proudly served the Fox Valley community for more than a century. The story began in 1919, when Herman Bunge opened Bunge's Tire on Grove Avenue in Elgin, Illinois, at the site where the Grand Victoria Casino stands today. In its early years, the business sold United States Royal Tires, later known as Uniroyal, establishing a reputation for quality products and dependable service. As the automotive industry evolved, Bunge's became a Goodyear dealer, continuing its commitment to providing trusted tire brands and expert automotive service. In the 1950s, the business was purchased by Boncosky Oil. Under its ownership, Bunge's expanded from a single location into multiple stores, serving more customers throughout the region. As Boncosky Oil's business priorities shifted toward the petroleum industry, less emphasis was placed on the automotive repair division. Over time, the additional stores were sold until only the original Grove Avenue location remained. During the 1990s, the City of Elgin acquired the Grove Avenue property through eminent domain as part of a redevelopment project. This led to the sale of Bunge's to its third owners, the Cook-Lee Partnership. The business relocated to Tyler Creek Plaza, where limited parking proved challenging. In 1998, Bunge's moved once again to its current home on McLean Boulevard in Elgin as part of the city's planned neighborhood development. Around this same period, the company also lost its Goodyear dealership. A new chapter began in 2006, when Wright Brothers Automotive purchased Bunge's Tire & Auto. Under their ownership, the business regained its Goodyear dealership, modernized its operations, and continued the tradition of providing honest, high-quality automotive service. Growth continued with the opening of a Hampshire location in 2016 and a Bartlett location in 2018. Following the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company consolidated operations back to a single location, allowing the team to focus on delivering the same exceptional service that has defined Bunge's for generations. Today, Bunge's Tire & Auto proudly serves customers from its McLean Boulevard location in Elgin, remaining committed to the values established by Herman Bunge in 1919: quality workmanship, trusted products, and treating every customer with honesty and respect.
